Residential Fire
Scott, LA — 8/19/25 - At approximately 12:38 a.m., the Scott Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 100 block of Barracks Street. Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke coming from the home. Firefighters made entry and located a fire in the kitchen that had extended into the attic. Crews quickly contained the blaze, limiting further damage.
The kitchen and attic above the stove sustained significant fire damage, with smoke damage affecting the remainder of the residence. An investigation determined the cause to be an unattended pot left on the stove.
Fortunately, the occupant was able to safely exit the home before firefighters arrived. No firefighter injuries were reported. Units from Carencro and Duson Fire Departments responded to provide assistance.
With two significant kitchen fires in less than 48 hours, the Scott Fire Department reminds everyone of the following safety tips:
Remain in the kitchen while cooking on the stove.
Keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
NEVER use water to extinguish a grease fire.
If you have any doubts about controlling a small fire, exit the home immediately and call 9-1-1.
