Commercial Fire

Scott, LA — 8/20/25 - At approximately 8:30 p.m., the Scott Fire Department responded to a reported commercial fire at the Huddle House, located at 1640 St. Mary Street. Upon arrival, crews confirmed that all customers and employees had safely exited the establishment and were informed that a fire was located in the kitchen. Firefighters entered the building and found a fire behind the grill extending into a nearby wall, which was quickly extinguished.

An investigation determined the fire originated from repeated heating of a natural gas line supplying a nearby appliance, which eventually weakened and failed, igniting the escaping gas. As a precaution, gas service to the building was shut off. Fire crews utilized gas detection equipment to confirm there was no accumulation of gas inside the structure.

The kitchen area sustained minor fire and smoke damage. Once proper repairs to the gas line and equipment are completed and inspected by fire prevention officers, the building will be cleared to reopen. Closure time is expected to be minimal.

No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.
