Fire Incident

Scott, LA — 9/2/25 – At approximately 7:14 p.m., the Scott Fire Department responded to reports of an explosion followed by a fire in the 100 block of Natchez Street.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a large pile of debris, including refrigerators, tires, air conditioners, and other materials, which had been used to construct an estimated 50’ x 30’ homeless encampment in the wooded area. Crews were initially informed that all occupants were accounted for except one. Firefighters advanced into the debris in an attempt to locate the missing individual.

Minutes later, several explosions occurred, believed to have been caused by propane tanks within the camp. Due to the size of the debris pile and the explosions, firefighters were forced to withdraw from the area for their safety.

Heavy equipment, a ladder truck, and cadaver dogs were requested to assist with fire suppression and the search for the potential victim. Once resources arrived on scene, confirmation was made that the previously unaccounted-for individual had been located safely. Crews then initiated fire suppression operations, and the blaze was quickly brought under control.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

To sustain a water flow rate of 1,500 gallons per minute, tanker support was provided by the following departments:

  • Scott

  • Duson

  • Carencro

  • Mire

  • Broussard

  • Youngsville

Additionally, firefighters from Duson and Judice assisted with extinguishment efforts.
