FIRE INVESTIGATIONS

Fire Prevention conducts investigations into suspicious fires to determine their origin and cause.  Whether a fire is accidental in nature or intentionally set, the investigation team determines action needed to prevent future occurrence, such as product recalls, public awareness, increased code compliance inspections, or arresting and prosecuting an arsonist.

PUBLIC EDUCATION

The Fire Department provides public education programs upon request.  Both our stations and fire prevention personnel have an active presence in our community.  Some of the programs we offer include station tours, fire extinguisher training, home escape planning and general fire safety for children.

PLAN REVIEW

Fire prevention reviews construction plans to determine compliance with the adopted 2012 International Fire and Building Codes as well as all local codes, ordinances, standards and regulations.  Fire Plan reviewers look for such things as adequate and compliant fire safety systems, fire resistant building materials, Fire Department access and proper and adequate exiting.

BUSINESS FIRE PREVENTION

Our Fire Prevention Bureau is a critical component of our mission in keeping our great City safe by providing public fire education for businesses, educating children on fire, and code enforcement. To help you better prepare your business for your next annual inspection, please review the 25 most common International Fire Code violations for business. In addition to staying in compliance with the fire code, this information can assist in eliminating potential fire hazards in your business.
