Residential Fire

Scott, LA — 4/13/25 In the early hours of Sunday morning, at approximately 2:53 AM, the Scott Fire Department was dispatched to a residential fire reported in the 100 block of Swedish Drive. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and visible flames emitting from a window of the residence.

The sole occupant of the home had safely evacuated prior to fire department’s arrival and confirmed that no one else was inside. Firefighters quickly entered the structure and located the seat of the fire in the kitchen and laundry room area. The fire was quickly brought under control, preventing further spread throughout the home.

A preliminary investigation determined that the fire originated accidentally in or near the clothes dryer located in the laundry room. While the kitchen and laundry room sustained major fire damage, the remainder of the residence was impacted primarily by smoke.

The Scott Fire Department received assistance from the Carencro, Duson, and Lafayette Fire Departments. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported during the incident.

“This incident underscores the importance of regular appliance maintenance and fire safety awareness”. “We are grateful that the resident was able to escape unharmed and that no injuries were sustained during the incident.”

The Scott Fire Department reminds all residents to ensure their smoke alarms are functioning and to practice an evacuation plan with all household members.
