Residential Fire
Scott, LA — 10/16/25 — On Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 2:58 PM, the Scott Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire in the 200 block of Pope Drive. Upon arrival, crews observed heavy fire coming from the structure. Sheriff’s Deputies already on scene confirmed that an occupant was still inside the home. Firefighters located the occupant near the rear door, pulled him to a safe area in the yard, where additional firefighters immediately began administering medical aid. The rescue crew reentered the structure to perform a secondary search for additional victims, at which point they located a dog, which was also brought outside for medical treatment. Additional crews made entry into the structure and were able to quickly bring the fire under control.
While gathering information for the investigation, firefighters learned that prior to their arrival, a Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Deputy located the victim in the rear hallway and was able to pull the unconscious victim to the doorway as smoke intensified. His courageous actions were instrumental in helping firefighters quickly locate the victim, significantly increasing the victim’s chances of survival.
An investigation into the fire determined the fire to be accidental in nature, originating from an improperly discarded cigarette on the porch, which spread to the home.
The occupant rescued from the structure was airlifted to a local hospital with burns to his torso and severe smoke inhalation; he is expected to survive. A second occupant, who escaped prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and is also expected to recover. Unfortunately, the dog removed from the residence did not survive.
The residence sustained extensive fire damage throughout and has been deemed uninhabitable.
No firefighters were injured during the incident.
Units from the Carencro and Duson Fire Departments responded to provide mutual aid.
